On Oct. 20, 2011, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met respectively with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Kittirat Naranong and Vice President of Myanmar U Tin Aung Myint Oo in Nanning. Premier Wen welcomed the leaders of ASEAN countries to attend the 8th China-ASEAN Expo and the 8th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. He expressed the belief that the economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN will achieve more fruitful results.

Premier Wen made positive comments on bilateral relations between China and the above-mentioned ASEAN countries. He said that China is willing to work together with them to implement the reached consensus and promote new progress of bilateral relations. The leaders of ASEAN countries all considered developing friendly relations with China critical and believed in the promising prospects of such relations. They are willing to work with China to push forward the development of mutually beneficial cooperation within the bilateral framework.

Premier Wen also expressed his deep condolences to the victims affected by the rare floods in Thailand and Cambodia. The leaders of the two countries thanked China for providing material assistance and help in a timely manner.

Premier Wen expected the governments of concerned countries to properly handle the aftermath of Chinese sailors killed on the Mekong River, speed up the investigation and handling of the case, take joint actions, strengthen enforcement cooperation in the Mekong River and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.The leaders of Thailand and other relevant countries expressed their deep condolences to the Chinese personnel killed on the Mekong River and expressed the willingness to cooperate closely with China to investigate the case, properly handle the aftermath, and jointly safeguard the safety of navigation on the Mekong River.

During the meeting with Vice President of Myanmar U Tin Aung Myint Oo, Premier Wen said that the sound implementation of major cooperation projects between China and Myanmar complies with the common interests of both sides. The two sides should earnestly implement the consensus reached by the leaders, earnestly fulfill the commitments, strengthen coordination and communication, and properly solve the problems emerging from cooperation so as to ensure the healthy and smooth development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.U Tin Aung Myint Oo said that Myanmar attaches great importance to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China, will maintain close communication with China, and will actively seek solutions to problems so as to safeguard common interests.

Speaking of the upcoming series of East Asian leaders meetings, Premier Wen said that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) develops partnership through unity and plays a leading role in East Asian cooperation. 10+1 and 10+3 cooperation mechanisms constitute the foundation and the principal parts of East Asian cooperation and have achieved fruitful results. Against the backdrop of the international financial crisis and facing various tough challenges and complexities of various factors, the series of East Asian leaders meetings will continue to uphold the theme of development, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results, insist on the leadership of ASEAN in East Asian cooperation, develop stronger 10+1 and 10+3 cooperation, and promote the development of East Asian cooperation along the healthy track and to a higher level. China firmly pursues the foreign policy of developing good neighborly and friendly relations with neighboring countries and is willing to work with relevant countries to properly handle maritime disputes and make unremitting efforts to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

The leaders of the five countries expressed their willingness to consolidate the 10+1 and 10+3 cooperation mechanisms and strengthen friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation with China in economy, culture, education and other areas to consolidate the foundation for East Asian cooperation. ASEAN thanked China for supporting the ASEAN-led East Asian cooperation. ASEAN is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to make the East Asia Leaders' Meetings successful, safeguard common interests and promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Guo Shengkun, Secretary of CPC Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ma Biao, Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Zhang Zhijun, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gao Hucheng, China International Trade Representative and concurrently Vice Minister of Commerce, and other officials were present at the meetings.
