On the afternoon of July 1, 2010, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang held a regular press conference and answered questions.

Qin Gang: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I have no announcement to make. Now the floor is open.

Q: It is learnt that the Indian National Security Advisor Menon will visit China. Can you brief us on his itinerary and issues to be discussed?

A: The Indian Prime Minister's special envoy Menon will pay a visit to China from July 3 to 6. The two sides will exchange views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest. Information on his visit will be released in due course. Please follow closely.

Q: How does the Foreign Ministry comment on Japan's relaxation of its restrictions over tourist visa for Chinese citizens?

A: We welcome the decision of Japan and hope that such a decision and future measures adopted by the two sides would positively promote people-to-people exchanges and enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.

Q: It is reported that the Italian police recently raided a group of Chinese gangsters suspected of money laundering and counterfeiting. It's said that over 20 Chinese companies have been closed down. How do you comment? Will it affect the Chinese businessmen in Italy?

A: We have taken note of relevant reports and are verifying the information. If it is true, we will urge the Italian side to handle this case in a fair way according to law to ensure the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in Italy.

Q: Do you have any update on the case of the hijacked Singaporean cargo ship with 19 Chinese sailors on board? In addition, you were asked on Tuesday about Google's statement that it would comply with China's law and stop redirecting Chinese users to its site in Hong Kong in order to gain renewal of its business license. Are you aware of this statement? How do you view the prospect of Google staying in China?

A: On your first question, on June 28, the Singaporean cargo ship "Golden Blessing" was hijacked by pirates when passing through the Gulf of Aden with 19 Chinese sailors on board. We are watching closely and rescue work is underway.

On the Google question, Internet operators in China should abide by China's laws and regulations. Please refer to competent authorities for the specifics.

Q: I have two questions. First, Nepalese Prime Minister officially announced his resignation on June 30. How does China comment? Second, on June 23, the Secretary General of the United Nations appointed a panel of experts to advise him on accountability issues relating to alleged violations of human rights during Sri Lanka's civil war. How does China comment?

A: On your first question, during his tenure, Prime Minister Nepal actively worked for the development of China-Nepal relations, making significant contribution to the building of China-Nepal Comprehensive Partnership of Cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship. We highly appreciate that.

The Chinese Government adheres to the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs. As a friendly neighbor, China sincerely hopes that various political factions in Nepal will seek political consensus through dialogue and jointly push forward the hard-won peace process to realize national political stability and economic growth at an early date.

On the Sri Lankan issue, we have noted the penal appointed by the UN Secretary General. Prior to that, the Sri Lankan Government also set up the "Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission". China believes that the Sri Lankan Government and people are capable of handling relevant issues and hope that the international community including the UN Secretariat can foster a favorable external environment for the Sri Lankan Government to stabilize the domestic situation and quicken economic development in the country.

If there are no more questions, thank you for coming. See you!
